T&E: EU risks falling behind China in the push to develop green fuels for shipping
Europe’s 69 planned e-fuel projects have the potential to supply the maritime sector with zero-emission fuels by 2033, but only six facilities are currently operational, according to T&E’s updated e-fuels tracker.
As highlighted, the figures underscore the challenges Europe faces in moving large-scale clean fuel projects from the planning stage to reality. T&E says stronger regulatory action, including targeted financial support and EU-wide clean fuel targets, is needed to accelerate investment and help bring larger projects online. Without such measures, Europe risks losing ground in the emerging strategic market for sustainable fuels.
