Early methanol adopters share key lessons on ship design, operations and crew training

Early experience with methanol-fuelled vessels has demonstrated that the fuel can be used safely and effectively in commercial shipping, while highlighting important lessons in system integration, commissioning, maintenance and crew competence, according to a new report by the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS).

The report, “Methanol Ship Design and Operations: Operational Experience from Early Adopters”, examines how methanol systems have performed in actual service and identifies the practical improvements made by operators, shipyards and equipment manufacturers as experience accumulated.
