Los Angeles and Long Beach ports outline plans for cleaner marine fuel bunkering
The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have identified liquefied natural gas (LNG) and methanol as the most viable alternative marine fuels for the near and medium term, outlining steps to develop bunkering infrastructure and support their wider adoption.
Announced on October 28, 2026, the findings come from the Clean Marine Fuel Feasibility Assessment, conducted as part of the ports’ joint Green Shipping Corridor efforts. The assessment examined which fuels shipping companies are most likely to adopt, potential future demand and the infrastructure needed to support their use.
